Sunday School
Adult Sunday School has started by way of ZOOM. If you would like to receive an invitation to participate, email office@mcnaz.com and identify yourself. For security reasons, you must have an invitation in order to participate. Donna Corbeil is the teacher and she will publish the scripture verses in advance so that you can be prepared for the class.

Meeting again this week!!! – Teen Zoo!
This Thursday, Pastor Garry, Tonia, Tim, and Aaron would like to see your smiling faces. Email Aaron (office@mcnaz.com) the best email address to use to send you an invitation to join in!

Facebook Live
FACEBOOK LIVE STREAMING is our medium of choice these days. Although it isn’t perfect, we would encourage you, at least for the short term, to open a Facebook account and LIKE the Manchester Ct Church of the Nazarene page. This will make it easier for you to stay connected during this health crisis. The other account we would like you to get is a free ZOOM account. Both of these accounts are free, and we will use these platforms to connect with you until we can be face to face once again, hopefully soon!

Tithes and Offerings
Tithes and Offerings Thank you to all who have been sending in Tithes and Offerings in various ways (including nailing them to my front tree!) Please continue to use the APP, the Mail, your online banking APPs and other ways to give your offerings. Also, we have established a new Compassion Fund for those in our congregation who may need financial support due to the recent events. To contribute, look for that designation on the Church App or write a note in the margin of your check.

Prayer Requests
Look at the Prayer Wall on the Church App for prayer requests. Don’t forget, Jen, Clara, Jerry, Ruth, and those others who are wrestling with COVID-19. Keep praying!

Celebrate Recovery Crisis Response
“CRCR” is dedicated to supporting men and women in their victory over hurts, habits and hang-ups iunder changing conditions.

Open Share on-line via Zoom: Men: 7:00 pm Thursday - Women: 8:00 pm Thursday.

Please contact Dave at 860 432 8251 or at profdave8@cox.net to register and receive the link.

Highlights from the most recent MCN Board Meeting:

  1. Cancellations: District Assembly, Local Annual Meeting, MCN Women’s Retreat, All local meetings until we are cleared to meet again, sometime after May 20. This means that the current board members and officers will serve until their replacements “are elected and qualified,” according to our bylaws.

  2. Annual reports will still be made and a booklet will be compiled with reports from each department.

  3. The Board voted to continue paying our hourly workers their normal wages based on their normal hours for the present time. If the church is approved for a Payroll Protection Program Loan, then we will continue this through the crisis. If the loan is not approved, we will have to revisit this decision.

  4. Tithes and offerings are running about $5,000 per week, which is about $3,500 less than our weekly budgeted need. We are grateful for those who continue to send in offerings or use the MCN Smartphone APP to make donations and offer tithes.

  5. The 22 teachers returning to Cornerstone Christian School next year were rehired, based on the recommendation of our Head of School.

  6. The members of the staff were granted salary increases for the coming church year.

  7. The budget for the church and the budget for the school were reviewed and approved. The school budget included salary increases for teachers commensurate with the new wage increases mandated by the state of Connecticut.

  8. A compassionate ministry fund was established and a committee of three appointed to administer it, Pastor Dan, George and Donna.

Easter Service
This Sunday morning, Easter, 2020, we will have a drive-in service on the property. This service will have some strict regulations in order to cooperate with the civil authorities with whom we have cleared this endeavor. Please understand, it is a matter of public conscience that we observe the promises that pastoral staff has made on our behalf. Here is what has been promised. 1. We will observe social distancing at all times: a. Car windows will only be opened on one side of the car. b. No one will leave their cars. c. Bathrooms will not be available. (If you must go, give yourself time to drive back home.) d. Participants will not meet for rehearsals in advance of the service. e. We will take no offerings nor provide song sheets. f. We will not pass out communion elements. g. Nothing will pass either “in to” or “out from” the vehicles. 2. To accomplish these objectives, we are doing the following: a. Song sheets are available online. Bring the lyrics with you. b. We will push a notice to phones at the beginning of the service with a link to lyric sheets as well. c. We will not provide communion elements to the crowd or the service participants. d. Musicians have extra long cords to keep them double distanced from each other. There are two exceptions: The Whitneys and Lights have been sequestered together throughout. We live and operate pretty much as one family, so this made sense to us. Also, the Charettes will not need to social distance from each other. We state this so that we can be accountable to the public authorities. e. Baptisms will be by pouring. This provides some distance and avoids cross contamination. 3. Please take time to look at the EASTER SUNDAY tab on the church website. Full details, including maps can be found there.

A Message from Pastor Dan
As most of you know, starting March 22, 2020, we began streaming our services live on Facebook. We will continue to hold video services in our sanctuary as long as we are able, and will also work to provide a Wednesday night gathering tie at 6:45 PM. In addition, Pastor Dan will be posting devotional thoughts and readings daily on the church’s Facebook page. While the Lights and the Whitneys will be in the office periodically, the MCN offices are closed for now, in order to cooperate with the government’s directives to maintain social distance. If you haven’t “liked” the Manchester Ct Church of the Nazarene Facebook page, please do so as soon as you can. There are some initiatives in place:

  • Addison Light is collecting riddles for use on Wednesday nights. (Submit to office@mcnaz.com)

  • If you want a list of seniors for correspondence, email the office.

  • If you need a new church directory, email the office. (Don’t share the document online!

  • If you are working on an art project at home, photograph it when completed, and send it to dan.whitney@mcnaz.com. We will post on the website.

  • If you find a website or article with good ideas for keeping kids active and engaged while at home, send it to us and we will post it.

  • If you have prayer requests or praises to report, send them in or call. We have a prayer wall that we are adding to daily, and we will start a praise wall on Monday (3-23-2020).

If you want to share any of the live posts, click on “Watch Party” and the live post will jump to your news feed and your friends will be able to see it as well.

Please do your best to keep in touch with folks, and let’s make sure no one has to go through this strange time alone.

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Dan

Don’t forget online giving, or mail in contributions. Costs will remain pretty constant during these days, so your prayerful support will be critical!
